Setting the Stage for the Future

How do you provide underserved young people with the resources they need to succeed? At BUILD, we do it by helping our students to start their own small businesses.

Our Impact

As they reap the rewards – from keeping profits to gaining self confidence – BUILD students learn there is a connection between hard work and creating a stronger community

BUILD Alumni Spotlight

Dasha Howard was a 2018 graduate of Friendship Collegiate Academy looking to study Journalism & Communication in college. Dasha worked hard throughout her past few years of high school to pay homage to her mother whom she lost at the age of 14 years old. With the support of her father and her mentor, teachers, and staff in BUILD, Dasha was able to champion the college application process. She was accepted into eleven colleges, was awarded $56,000 in scholarships, and is currently attending Old Dominion University. As a student entrepreneur, Dasha was CEO of student business “the money tree” which she says has given her the confidence to succeed and try new things.
